7. ‘Trump To Deport Ghanaians Who Overstayed Visas‘
In November, the United States held one of the most-contentious presidential elections in its history, with the Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump emerging as the winner.
During his campaign, Trump promised to deal decisively with the growing problem of illegal migrants from Mexico, Africa, the Middle East, and other parts of the world, promising to deport all aliens currently living in America without legal documents.
Speaking to a Ghanaian radio station shortly after Trump was declared the winner, the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson, confirmed that the president-elect will deport Ghanaians who have overstayed their visas.
“We have a lot of Ghanaians who have overstayed their visas in the United States, and I think that they need to be concerned about whether they would be allowed to remain illegally,” Jackson said.
In October, the United States deported 54 Ghanaian and Liberian migrants back to Ghana for what officials said was a wide range of issues including overstayed visas.
