Canadian musician Tory Lanez reportedly told Megan Thee Stallion via text he shot her because he was ‘just too drunk’ several hours after the infamous July 12 incident that left the rapper injured in both feet and in need of surgery to “to remove the bullets.”
The said text message, which was obtained by TMZ, was sent to the Savage rapper while she was receiving treatment at the hospital. “I know u prolly never gone talk to me again, but I genuinely want u to know I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart,” an apologetic Lanez wrote. He then claimed: “I was just too drunk.”
Though Lanez – born Daystar Peterson – did not specifically mention the shooting, TMZ asserts he was clearly remorseful over an incident.
“None the less s**t should have never happened and I can’t change what did. I just feel horrible,” he continued, and then reiterated: “Cuz I genuinely just got too drunk.”
Lanez, 28, was arrested the night of the shooting and charged with a felony but was later released after posting a $35,000 bail. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office is, however, exploring the possibility of filing charges against the musician. A spokesperson from LADA told Billboard they have requested authorities to provide more information about the case before they decide whether or not to file felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm charge against him.
Megan Thee Stallion initially kept mum about the incident but finally broke her silence on August 20 during an Instagram Live session where she emphatically claimed she was shot by Lanez and accused the musician and his team of lying.
“Y’all hoes so worried ’bout it. Yes, this n**** Tory shot me,” Megan, 25, revealed. “You shot me. And you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and sh*t. Stop lying. Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you dragging it. You really f***ing dragging it. M****f**kas talkin’ ‘bout I hit this n****. I never hit you. M***f**kas was like, ‘Oh she mad ’cause he was tryna f**k with Kylie.’ No I wasn’t. You dry shot me.”
She continued: “Everybody in the car…it’s only four m****f**kas in the car. Me, you, my homegirl and yo security. Everybody in the car arguing. I’m in the front seat, this n*** in the backseat. I get out the car, I’m done arguing. I don’t wanna argue no more. I get out. I’mwalking away. This n***, from out the backseat of the car, start shooting me. You shot me. I ain’t get cut by no glass.”
She also went ahead to explain why she chose not to tell the police there was a gun in the SUV when they got pulled over. According to the rapper, she was scared they would be racially profiled.
Below is Megan’s version of events:
“Cause the people in the neighborhood…there’s a witness. When the police came because the neighbors called the police. This did not happen at Kylie’s house. This happened damn near back at the house I was staying at. I was just tryna get home. I was five minutes away from my spot. The police come. I’m scared. All this sh*t going on with the police.
“The police is shooting m***f**kas for anything. The police was literally killing Black people for no m****f****ng reason. Soon as the police tell us all get out the m****f****ng car, the police is really aggressive. You think I’m ’bout to tell the police that we, n****, us Black people, got a gun in the car? You want me to tell the laws that we got a gun in the car, so they can shoot all of us up? N****, I’m scared. It’s a f**k**g helicopter over us and some mo sh*t. Why the f**k would I tell the laws somebody got a gun in the car and this n**** shot me? So I can get shot, you can get shot, she can get shot?”
