Chadwick Boseman, who plays T’challa in the record-breaking film Black Panther, revealed he was kicked off the cast of soap opera long before he played the iconic characters he has come to be known for.

Speaking at the commencement at his alma mater, Howard University, Boseman said that he had raised a number of questions on the character he was portraying.

The star, who  graduated from the Washington DC University in 2002, added that he was in the show for a total of three days before he was ‘let go.’ What he thought was going to be an improvement in the character became the act that got him fired.

“Forget their stories, I can tell my own stories … Sometimes you need to get knocked down before you can really figure out what your fight is and how you need to fight it. When I dared to challenge the systems that would relegate us to victims and stereotypes with no clear historical backgrounds, no hopes or talents, when I questioned that method of portrayal, a different path opened up for me — a path to my destiny. When God has something for you, it doesn’t matter who stands against it,” he said.
