Sumpter allegedly used a customer’s debit card information to pay her probation fines and fees with the Coweta County State Court Probation Office (CCSCPO) on January 31 while she was employed at Whataburger in Newnan, according to a statement by the Senoia Police Department.
The buyer reported the unlawful transaction to the probation office after noticing a $400 payment to CCSCPO on his account. The customer, who lives in Senoia, also contacted the police department.
The Senoia police and the CCSCPO collaborated to identify Sumpter as the suspect.
“The victim was also able to pick Ms. Sumpter out of a photo line-up as being the worker who took his card as payment and disappeared for a couple minutes,” the statement by the police said.
According to the police, Sumpter consented to turn herself in on February 21 after they and her probation officer informed her of the arrest warrants they had acquired.
But she didn’t turn herself in, and she stopped returning investigators’ calls, the police said.
Police interrogated family members, who indicated she went to Florida, a vacation that was allegedly arranged before the charges were filed against her.
Sumpter was allegedly on probation for a prior marijuana possession offense, according to the police.
On Wednesday, February 26, the Senoia Police Department said she had turned herself in.
