Ugandan police are holding a 21-year-old woman for allegedly staging her own kidnap in a bid to extort money from her boyfriend.

Mariam Uwase made a teary and emotional call to her boyfriend, claiming that she has been abducted and that the abductors are demanding $6750 or else they would kill her, reports the Daily Monitor.

Uwase apparently insinuated that her boyfriend was mean.

To keep the abductors from harming Uwase,  her boyfriend sent $189 and promised the rest later. He also reported the case to the Lugala police station.

Upon investigation, the police found Uwase living large and comfortable in a mansion in the country’s capital, Kampala.

Not only did she confess to the deed, she also stated that she had run out of money for taking care of her siblings.

She is currently detained at the Old Kampala police station and will be charged with giving false information, a misdemeanor in the country’s Penal Code.
