Known famously as a writer, Mongo Beti is one of Cameroon’s foremost academicians. Born in 1932 in a small village close to the capital town Yaounde, Eza Boto, as he is alternatively called, rose through the ranks to become an important author in Cameroon and Africa.

He spent much of his life in France studying at the Sorbonne and becoming a professor at Lycee Pierre Corneille. In 1991, Mongo Beti returned to Cameroon, after what some describe as a self-imposed exile.
