A 32-year-old Chicago man suffered a severe laceration to the arm and later died after he punched the window of a bar where he had been kicked out. According to CBS Chicago, the Monday incident occurred at a bar in Beach Park.
The Lake County IL Sheriff’s Office in a statement said they received a report around 2 a.m. about a critically injured individual at a bar on Sheridan Road. Deputies who responded to the scene found a man, identified as Jonathan Banks, with a severe arm wound.
The Sheriff’s Office said a preliminary investigation revealed Banks and another individual had gotten into a verbal altercation while he was inside the bar. After security escorted him out of the establishment, Banks is said to have punched his fist through a window near the bar’s front door. Banks ended up suffering a severe arm laceration that caused him to bleed profusely, authorities said, adding that he then made a friend who was also at the bar drive him to the hospital.
Banks is said to have gone in and out of consciousness while they were headed to the hospital. And after regaining consciousness at a certain point, Banks grabbed the car’s wheel, making the driver hit a curb as well as a trashcan. Authorities said that resulted in the car being unable to move.
Banks was ultimately transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities said that though the incident is being investigated, it appears the injury the deceased man suffered was self-inflicted.
