Poem: Woman’s Well Experience

John 4

John 4

As I study the scriptures and events that makes up the New testament, its seemly fictional stories are actually real-life experiences with long-lasting effects that transcend time. Do you believe? Well, that’s why it’s called FAITH….

Inspired by John’s Gospel Chapter 4

The FIRST seemed right, eventually he turned out to be a scam, didn’t care…
He used me whenever he liked and when I needed his attention he wasn’t there…
Then I met the SECOND, he was strong, protective, firm, and held me dearly…
Was deeply in love till he literally beat away the feelings, then I saw clearly…
Couldn’t take it any longer, so I went to see a diviner I felt this wasn’t ordinary…
He became my THIRD, being very religious he was quickly loved by my family…
Two years later after what seemed like the perfect predestined union…
Discovered he had been married with 3 kids, he was deceptive like a demon…
We had a divorce, but devastated and alone I fell in love with my best friend…
Didn’t see it coming, but he was my FOURTH and it seemed like it’ll never end…
We had two kids together until he started acting strange, coming back late at night…
He turned out to be a drunkard and that was the beginning of our fights…
Two weeks later, deciding to start all over, I relocated thinking it’ll solve my problem…
At a bar, I met my FIFTH who had a charismatic charm and an enthralling emblem…
Three weeks later, feeling devastated and empty I picked up a knife almost slitting my throat…
Because he packed his things and left the house without saying a word or dropping a note…
I held on, deciding that all men were the same, resigned to commitment and love, staying strong…
But they all couldn’t resist my charm, so I consented to the SIXTH just for the fun…
He wasn’t satisfying, so I left to live with the SEVENTH, my friend whose wife was out of town…
Feeling useless, totally giving up on myself in thought as I went fetch water from the well downtown…
Sitting beside the well was a man so pure, his eyes sparkled as I watched him blink…
Amazed as his heart piercing voice echoed in my ears, “Will you give me a drink”…
We obviously have different interests, I suggest you mind your business; I said intending to play hard…
He said, “You would have asked if you knew that I am the fountain that never runs dry…
“Yes, you’ve been fetching from different streams in your quest for fulfillment and satisfaction…
“But I offer a free limitless life, my breath, the birth of a new dawn, and answers to your questions”…
The warmth of his presence and the love he expressed was different from what I’ve ever felt…
Assuring me of the permanent satisfaction I’ll find in him, he told me all about myself…
Even in his absolute perfection he never condemned me…
Assuring me of salvation and how faith in him would change me…
But then the laws and traditions seemed to me like criteria for my redemption…
Then He said, “True worshippers are born of the spirit for I have broken the walls of partition”…
It was all I wanted, the years of searching and bondage had ended…
All the scars of my past were healed and at that moment I decided…
I met Jesus beside Jacob’s well, He proposed and I yielded…
It’s been over 200 decades, our union transcends time, its eternal and that’s all I ever needed…
My encounter at that well…
Repaired my past, enhanced my present, and secured my future.
