2012 Ghana Fashion and Design Week

During the weekend of October 5th, and 6th, the world of fashion came down to Accra, Ghana as the 2012 edition of Ghana Fashion & Design Week took place in grand style at the Movenpick Hotel & Resorts.

The two-day programme was not just another fashion show. It was characterized by exhibitions and seminars. Dazzling women in glitter, wearing sky-high heels in elaborate clothing gave the audience enough reason to turn up for the second day's event. Although while some of the models had bodies with killer curves, others weren’t as naturally blessed.

Designers such as Mina Evans, Oroma Cookey-Gam, Mimi Lee, Coccolily, Morts and More, Christie Brown , AFG-Trade Not Aid, Konfidence amongst others did their best to wow the audience with their unique designs and brands.

A couple of the designers also unveiled their latest collections to the audience at the event.

Unveiling her Spring/Summer 2013 collection dubbed “Twisted Romance”, Creative Director Mina Evans-Anfom featured fabrics like organza, Tie and Die and introduced twisted pleats.

The collections, according to her, were “inspired by the image on the reverse of deserted curved beach chairs”. At this fashion show, Mina fused hard and soft with a whimsical twist through her use of colour and fabric. The collection from Alali Boutique was an adaptation of the fall 2012 dubbed: ‘Need for Glam’. It was inspired by surface water sportswear and the glamour of the 1950s.

The Resort 2013 collection by Christie Brown explored inequalities, gradients and geometry in fashion, sportswear minimalism, sheerness in chiffon and mesh.

Synonymous with the Mimi Lee London Brand, the Mimi’s Skin, Spring/Summer 2013 collection was largely characterized by delicate layers of tulle merged with leather, delicately hand-sewn lace and exotic ostrich feathers.

The sheer fabrics created an elegant silhouette to enhance feminity and were indeed a bold variation of shapes, fabrics, colour and texture.

Glitter wasn't the only thing glistening on the runway. The combination of the fashion and makeup created a bit of a spectacle on a grand scale.
