Whoopi Goldberg will be turning 70 in November, but the award-winning comedian, actress, and television personality has made it clear that she has no plans to retire as she cannot afford to do that.
Goldberg, who co-hosts The View, told Entertainment Tonight that she did not plan on retiring in the near future when she was asked if she ever thinks about “slowing down.”
“Yeah, but who can afford to do that? You know, if you don’t marry well, you gotta keep working,” Goldberg stated.
When the interviewer suggested that Goldberg might be one of the people who could afford retirement by now, the 69-year-old said that was not the case.
“No, not by now. Not yet,” the EGOT winner claimed. “I gotta keep paying those bills, baby,” she added.

During a previous discussion on The View, Goldberg similarly explained why she was still working.
“I work for a living, If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?” she said, with the panelists smiling and laughing in response.
Though Goldberg is saying that she cannot afford to retire, she’s still seemingly making some decent money as a co-host of The View. Her current earnings from the show cannot be established by Face2Face Africa. But in 2016, Variety reported that Goldberg had extended her contract, and she was going to maintain her $5 to $6 million annual salary at the time.
Goldberg has tied the knot on three occasions. Between 1973 and 1979, she was married to Alvin Martin, whom she shares a daughter with, per Independent. After their divorce, the actress then married David Claessan in 1986 before parting ways with him in 1988. She was also married to Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 to 1995.
