Adidas has unveiled the 8-piece Adidas x Bob Marley Collection, which offers clothes for both players and fans, specifically designed for off-pitch wear. This collection was developed in close collaboration with The Bob Marley Foundation, involving detailed talks with experts.

The fashion organization announced in a statement that the design process was built on past photos and historical clothing worn by the legendary musician. A key piece reimagined for this modern line is the iconic lilac Firebird track pants that Bob Marley famously wore while touring Europe, giving fans and collectors a tangible piece of music history.

Sam Handy, GM at adidas Football, said, “Bob Marley’s legacy is full of so much inspiration—but to bring it to life through this collection, we worked through old photographs and clothing from his tour days with the Bob Marley Foundation. It was an incredible privilege and ultimately, inspired us to build an apparel range that celebrate his music, love of football, and the spirit of Jamaica.”

The collection showcases impactful design elements inspired by Marley’s life and vast music library. A prominent, repeated wave pattern is incorporated throughout the designs, representing the rhythmic connection between his music and the soul of Jamaica.

The collection prominently features the Bob Marley Foundation’s core mantra, “Football is Freedom,” on key pieces such as the golden yellow jersey and the full-zip jacket. This phrase highlights Marley’s deep passion for soccer and his belief in its power to bring liberation.

Each item features the adidas Originals trefoil logo on one side and the name ‘Bob’ written in fancy handwriting (calligraphy script) on the opposite side.

According to Rolling Stone, Marley often spoke fondly of the sport during his 36 years. His own statement, “Football is part of I. When I play, the world wakes up around me,” highlights the significance of the collaboration, making it a natural fit. The Foundation, a Jamaican non-profit established by his wife to continue Marley’s legacy and offer philanthropic support to local communities, confirms soccer’s central place in his life.

Standout pieces from the collection include:

1. The “Football Freedom” Jersey; a yellow shirt with the national flag’s saltire, a flowing wave design with the name “MARLEY,” and a “Football is Freedom” graphic in yellow and emerald green on the front.

2. The emerald green Full-Zip Track Jacket and purple Trackpants, which offer a blend of classic athletic style and modern fashion. The jacket features the bold ‘Football Freedom’ graphic on the back.

The collection also features a dress and short-sleeve T-shirt striped in green, gold, and red, as well as wave-patterned red shorts, two styles of crew socks, and a unique brown and white adidas bowler bag.

Cedella Marley, CEO at The Bob Marley Foundation, said, “This is more than just a partnership to us, it’s a landmark moment which signifies unity, inspiration and the spirit of Bob Marley on the global stage. His unwavering belief in the power of our people lives on and through this collection, the fans can carry the pride of Jamaica.”

The new collection from Adidas honors the enduring legacy of Marley, one of music’s greatest icons, the organization said. It also serves to celebrate The Bob Marley Foundation and its significant, positive work supporting underserved and vulnerable communities across Jamaica.

A key focus for the foundation has been providing relief to those severely affected by Hurricane Melissa. Adidas has also provided additional donations to support this cause as the long-term effects of the hurricane continue.
