Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry recently opened up about his marriage to Ayesha and revealed a rule they have accepted to keep their union strong.

Curry, 37, and Ayesha, 36, married in 2011. The couple shares two daughters and two sons. The NBA star disclosed the rule in question during an interview with PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of his animated film, GOAT, on February 6. Curry stars alongside his wife in the movie.

Curry stated that he and Ayesha have no qualms about having “honest communication” to keep their marriage on a strong foundation.

“It sounds kind of cheesy, but it’s really a foundation,” Curry said. “We built that over time, where you can say whatever is on your mind and it doesn’t come off as a personal attack or anything.”

“Life is hard and you’re trying to, you know, handle all the stress and especially as parents, too. But if you can prioritize that, then prioritize each other as much as possible, that’s the foundation,” he added.

Ayesha also told the news outlet that they maintain their romance by making “time for date nights.”

“Even if it’s a night like this, like, that’s a date night for us, and so we just make sure that that togetherness and that foundation of why we started this life together in the first place is always at the core of it,” she said.

Per IMDb, the GOAT animated film centers on a “small goat with big dreams” who “gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world.”

Curry portrays Lenny Williamson, who is a giraffe in the animated film. The four-time NBA champion told PEOPLE that Ayesha, who is an actress, assisted him with some tips for the movie.

“She’s been doing it her whole life. And for the first session we had, she went first and I got to sit in and watch her work and it kind of broke the ice a little bit,” Curry said. “But once you’re in there … I didn’t realize how physical it was. It’s not like you’re just talking, but you gotta really be in that moment [which was] fun.”

Curry did not rule out working on a live-action movie with his wife. “Possibly. I do but I want to make sure [its] the right parts,” he stated.

“Like I don’t want to force it. That’s how all this stuff was happening, just natural as I got opportunity and being around a lot of people. So Ayesha will see…”
