Today’s Nigerian film industry has completely evolved. Straying away from its initial low-budget and low-quality productions, it has now earned a spot as the third-largest film industry in the world (behind Bollywood and Hollywood), producing thousands of movies a year, many of them advancing to become international blockbusters.

A number of actresses have also bloomed in the industry, becoming household names within and outside the African continent. Featuring in critically acclaimed local and foreign movies, or becoming celebrated movie directors themselves, these actresses have attained A-list status after entertaining African audiences for many years. However, most of them, although talented, have mostly remained within the confines of the African continent, with little to no opportunity to  share their talents with a global audience.

The rise of Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, Uzo Aduba and Chiwetel Ejiorfor, among several other African stars in Hollywood, leaves one to wonder how many more talented African actors are yet to be discovered by the international community. Join Face2Face Africa as we take a look at some of the most talented actresses currently in Nollywood who could shine in Hollywood and beyond.
