Dancing Pallbearers

In West Africa, particularly in Ghana and Nigeria, the newest form of entertainment at funerals, beyond the extravagance of the ceremonies, is the introduction of skilful pallbearers. These pallbearers are not your regular guys because these ones have to know a few dancing steps while still being able to balance the heavy coffins with the corpse, on their shoulders. It has been mostly fun but this fun has not always been the case.

Recently, a video went viral on social media which showed the failed attempts by a group of pallbearers carrying the corpse of a man, breaking off the top of the coffin and exposing the corpse.

And although the practice has been frowned upon by many who are calling for it to be abolished, the trend persists.
