A 6-year-old Virginia boy playing video games before going to bed was fatally shot after several suspects allegedly fired into his home on Monday night. According to PEOPLE, little Kingston Campbell succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head before police responded to the scene.
The suspects involved in the fatal shooting are being sought after by authorities. The incident was also captured on surveillance footage. Responding to the minor’s passing in a statement obtained by WSLS-TV, Kingston’s mother, Shay Fowler, said her “baby was such a sweet boy.”
“Kingston had me wrapped around his little finger. He was my weakness. My only son. My youngest child. I will never be the same again,” she said.
Fowler also said Kingston was in the company of his two older sisters when he was fatally shot, adding that she knows “they’re going to need some time to heal as well.”
“I’m hurt that it had to be my child, but I pray that no one else has to go through this pain that I have to. It’s going to be a struggle and a long journey ahead for me and my girls,” she also said in the statement.
Police are yet to arrest suspects in connection with the deadly shooting. They are also entreating the public to come forward with information that could assist with their investigation into the shooting.
“The murder of this child is a senseless tragedy stemming from a violent criminal act that has no place in our community. The LPD strives to partner with and protect our residents and visitors daily,” said the Lynchburg Police Department in a statement. “To effectively do so, we need those members of our community who have knowledge about criminal activity such as this to come forward. The victim and his family deserve nothing less.”
A GoFundMe has since been set up to help raise funds for Kingston’s funeral.
