Afrishionista Trend to Try: White

Sandra Appiah May 22, 2011

Instead of pulling out that ever-reliable (albeit monotonous) little black dress, Afrishionistas everywhere can try wearing trendy white this summer.

Afrishionista Trend to Try: WhiteCelebrity Afrishionistas like Shingai Shoniwa (Zimbabwe) and Iman (Somalia) all incorporate this hot trend into their wardrobes. The look is best sported from head to toe, or it could easily be broken down to a key style piece, like Iman’s white fitted dinner jacket, or Shingai’s white cut-out dress.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection features all white looks on the runway. Since white is neutral color like black, the trend is chic and feminine. Depending on what style item you chose, you can elevate your look from relaxed, like Iman, to glam like Shingai.

There are different ways to wear white — from bridal chic (Serena Williams) to relaxed chiffon (Ciara) to bohemian embroidered (Joan Smalls) — even white outfits in stylish feathers (as seen on Naomi Campbell) provide an elegant look.

The material you’ll use to rock this trend is very versatile, and can be a great way to transition from your day look (Iman) to your night look (Shingai).

Afrishionistas, will you rock the white trend this summer?
