Authorities in Florida have charged a Checkers employee after he allegedly shot and killed a customer during a dispute over extra mayo. Per WESH, the fatal May 21 incident occurred at a Checkers branch in Kissimmee.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived at the location after they received a report about a shooting. The deputies upon arrival determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between a customer identified as Wesley Robertson and Checkers employee, Elijah Travis Mackey, 23.

Prior to the shooting, footage showed Mackey climbing through the restaurant’s drive-thru window and confronting Robertson, per court documents. Witnesses also said the pair then got into a verbal altercation.

Court documents stated that during their argument, Robertson hurled a derogatory remark at Mackey, causing the suspect to reach for his waistband and draw a “small handgun.” Mackey then allegedly opened fire on Robertson, striking him in the chest.

The victim later succumbed to his injuries at the Osceola Regional Medical Center. Mackey has since been charged with first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, and he is being held without bond, per WESH.

“We are shocked and saddened by the incident that occurred last night at our restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida,” Checkers spokesperson, Kim Francis, said in a statement.

“The actions of this one employee do not reflect the values of the thousands of our hardworking employees across the country. We are working closely with the police in their investigation, and we are sending our thoughts and prayers to the guest’s family.”

In 2022, Face2Face Africa reported that a Black Dunkin’ worker, who said he fatally punched a White customer after he hurled racial slurs at him, was sentenced to two years of house arrest in connection with the incident.

According to NBC News, Corey Pujols was handed the punishment after he pleaded guilty to fatally attacking the 77-year-old White man. Pujols, who had initially pleaded not guilty, faced an aggravated manslaughter charge in connection with the confrontation. But court records revealed he later struck a plea deal that saw his charge reduced to felony battery.

Besides the house arrest, Pujols received an additional three-year probation sentence. He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and partake in an anger management course.
