Celebrated American Boxer Floyd Mayweather to Visit Nigeria for the First Time

Renowned American boxer Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. is expected to visit Nigeria for the first time, where he is set to meet with Nigerian entrepreneurs to discuss investment.

Speaking in a video posted on Vanguard two weeks ago, Mayweather announced that he will be making a maiden three-day trip to Nigeria between June 12 and 14, and is expected to tour several states around the country, including Anambra.

“Africa is our motherland and Nigeria our root,” Mayweather was quoted by The Guardian.

During this trip, the American boxer, who is also the President of The Money Team (TMT), is expected to meet several local businessmen and women, including an unspecified Prince from the State of Anambra, to discuss possible areas of investment.

“We will look at potential young people and see how we can collaborate and support their businesses, encourage them on how to get things done right and easier,” the boxer said.

He also promised to meet with officials from the Federal Government of Nigerian to discuss how they can work together to grow the economy, as reported by The Guardian.

Mayweather, who is set to return to the ring before the end of the year, is expected to tour several charity organizations in Nigeria and offer his support.

According to The Guardian, the retired boxing champion will visit several internally displaced people’s camps in Nigeria to show support and love, after which he will travel to Abuja for a charity fight whose proceeds will go to several charity organizations in the country.

“We will like to visit, support and encourage some of the returned Chibok girls,” The Guardian further quotes him as saying.

Reports also indicate that the undefeated champion will visit Accra, Ghana, where he is expected to pay a courtesy call on President Nana Akufo-Addo and later attend a boxing match at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

This maiden tour to West Africa is also part of his corporate social responsibility towards black people with a health initiative dubbed Boxing meningitis away from Africa.

International Boxing Champion

Regarded as one of the highest paid athletes in the world, Mayweather earned his first-ever world title in 1998 when he defeated Genaro Hernandez at the Las Vegas Hilton.

He has also had other major bouts with top-class boxers like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Diego Corrales.

The retired legend, who recently announced his intentions to return to the ring, is expected to pull on the gloves again later this year when he battles it out with one of his longtime critics and UFC star Conor McGregor.
