Born Lesane Parish Crooks in June 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur became the most talked about celebrity in the world in his heyday. The rapper, also an actor, was considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Growing in the Harlem neighbourhood of New York, he moved to San Francisco Bay area to pursue his career and by 1991, he had released his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now.
Many of his works have been praised because he addressed contemporary social issues that plagued blacks and people of colour. Most of his songs were targeted at racism and inequality.
His songs are just as powerful now as they were when he was alive. His quotes, which spoke more about motivation, life and love, became an inspiration to a lot of fans.
Tupac sadly died six days after he was shot in Las Vegas in 1996 at the age of 25.
