Kanye West has eulogized Kendrick Lamar following his 2025 Super Bowl performance, comparing it to the legendary era of Michael Jackson.
In a recent statement, West shared his thoughts on Lamar’s halftime show, calling it one of the best in recent history.
“A few people have been asking me, ‘What did you think of the Kendrick halftime show?’ and I really loved it. It was my favorite halftime show since the Michael Jackson era—which I barely remember, I’ve just seen clips of it,” the 47-year-old rapper said.

West described Lamar’s performance as “super simple” yet impactful. “The flag was fresh. When they did [‘HUMBLE.’], the way people’s heads were moving—I was shook. This was super fresh. The man’s voice control and all that. And, of course, they built up the controversy over whether he would do [‘Not Like Us’],” he added.
West also acknowledged the mixed reactions to Lamar’s performance online.
“I saw people saying this was the worst halftime show, and I’m just like, ‘Everybody I talked to in real life said this was the best halftime show,’” he remarked.

West further made a striking comparison between Drake and R. Kelly, stating, “Drake was almost like the new generation’s R. Kelly—the way R. Kelly had the radio smashes and all that. Then, the idea that was put out in Kendrick’s song is what R. Kelly is locked up for.”
During his set, Lamar teased his ‘Not Like Us’ diss track aimed at Drake before leading into Luther. While many anticipated whether he would perform the song, he ultimately closed his performance with it.
With SZA joining as a guest performer, Lamar’s Super Bowl appearance dominated social media discussions.
Recently, he also secured five Grammy Awards for ‘Not Like Us’ at the 2025 ceremony.
