During an appearance on Keke Palmer’s Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast on Tuesday, Usher and the actress reflected on her ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson’s reaction when the pair danced at the singer’s Las Vegas show in 2023.
Palmer, 31, and Usher, 46, made light of their dance on her podcast, saying that they “literally shut down the whole world for two seconds,” PEOPLE reported. “My reaction [to the show] was just like, ‘I can’t believe it, I haven’t seen anybody perform like this in such a long time,’” Palmer said about Usher’s performance. “Now obviously everybody went crazy. We caused some ruckus in my relationship.”
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, it appeared there was tension between the former couple in July 2023 when Jackson took to social media to register his displeasure over a revealing dress that Palmer wore to Usher’s Las Vegas residency show.
Jackson became a topic of discussion on social media when he commented on a viral video of Palmer dancing with Usher as he serenaded her. “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” he quoted on the video.
During their discussion, Usher jokingly asked if he was part of the reason behind “what was going on” in Palmer’s home. “I don’t want to take any responsibility for breaking everybody’s home up, but that wasn’t the purpose and point,” the Burn singer explained.
“It was for you to have a good time with your girls. Come out there and just enjoy… You looked fabulous, by the way. And if you didn’t wear what you wore, I wouldn’t have seen you. You was fabulous, amazing. I was like, ‘Oooh, Keke, come here, girl.’”

Palmer responded in the affirmative, saying that she enjoyed the show. “People have problems. Relationships have up and downs. If Usher ends up being there, it’s just coincidence,” the One of Them Days star stated.
Elsewhere in their discussion, Usher also touched on Palmer making a cameo in his Boyfriend music video following the Vegas incident.
“I know it was a hot moment for you and I was like, ‘You know what? When life feeds you lemons, you make lemonade. I think that this could be something positive and actually just shine a little bit of fun on it and allowing us to really do something that I think could be fun is the purpose and point of it,’” Usher said. “‘Let’s do something that just takes the mind off of it and just have a good time. Don’t focus on the drama.’”
Palmer and Jackson’s relationship initially did not end on amicable terms. The tension between the pair was exacerbated after Palmer filed for a domestic violence restraining order against Jackson, alleging that he physically attacked her on several occasions. Jackson, however, denied those claims and brought his own allegations against the Nope star. Besides that, the former couple also got embroiled in a bitter child custody battle.
But Palmer and Jackson ultimately agreed to have joint custody of their son, and it appears they’re now on good terms as the former said good things about her ex-boyfriend during an interview with PEOPLE last year.
“I’m so proud of him and happy for him,” she said in the interview. “I feel very at ease now knowing things are under control.”
