Lil Nas X, the singer and writer who shot into superstardom with his 2018 hit single Old Town Road, was arrested and charged after he was hospitalized for a possible overdose.

The Grammy-winning artist, born Montero Lamar Hill, was reportedly seen roaming the streets of Los Angeles early Thursday morning, wearing only white underwear and boots, TMZ reported.

Public information officer Charles Miller said that officers specifically found Lil Nas X in the Studio City area on Ventura Boulevard, CNN reported.

“Upon arrival the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer,” Miller said.

The Industry Baby rapper was being detained at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys at the time of this report.

In a 2020 interview with Variety, Lil Nas X opened up about the difficulties he experienced after he shot into superstardom. He also mentioned that his rise came during a period shadowed by the deaths of Nipsey Hussle, XXXTentacion and Juice Wrld.

“So much happened during my rise,” Lil Nas X said at the time. “You know, drugs and murders. And my grandmother passing [in 2018]— she was the first person close to me who died. It was devastating. And it made me a hypochondriac: I’d wake up, heart racing. It was scary.”

He also admitted to self-medicating at the time as he began “smoking [weed] heavily.” “But then I started feeling more connected with the universe, and taking everything as a sign,” he added.

In 2021, Lil Nas X further shared that he took psychedelic mushrooms while putting together his album Montero.
