Saidu Abdulrahman, a Nigerian photographer, is the current holder of the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the most head shot photographs taken in a single hour.
In September 2024, the 28-year-old photographer broke the previous record of 500 headshots in just 60 minutes, taking an incredible 897.
“The most headshot photographs taken in one hour is 897, and was achieved by Abdulrahaman Saidu (Nigeria) in Yobe, Nigeria, on 26 September 2024,” GWR said on their website in acknowledgment.
According to the organization, Abdulrahaman set this record to “create awareness of photography in Nigeria.”
The world record was broken in Potiskum, Yobe State, in front of local leaders, students, and passionate supporters.
TRT Afrika reports that Abdulrahman spent a year preparing for the event.
Even though the event took place in September, Guinness World Records just recently sent Abdulrahman an email confirming the title. He received a certificate and a badge.
The groundbreaking photographer expressed his excitement on Facebook, saying, “I am beyond thrilled to announce that I have officially been recognised as a Guinness World Records title holder for the most headshot photographs taken in one hour!
“Receiving my Guinness World Records certificate is a moment of immense pride and gratitude. It represents not only my dedication and hard work but also the unwavering support of my family, friends, mentors, and all well-wishers who stood by me.”
Abdulrahman is currently the CEO/MD of SP Photography Company and has been in the photography profession for four years now, with a Diploma in Office Technology and Management (OTM) from the College of Administration, Management and Technology (CAMTECH), Potiskum.
Before his historic achievement, he told the DailyTrust, “I opened SP Photography Academy where I have trained over 50 youths who are adding value to the photography profession. I use to emphasize that the empowerment of young artists will make Nigeria a secure country and a better place for our future generations.”
He added that he had been preparing for the historic occasion since 2023, when he informed the Guinness World Records management of his plan.
His dedication led to him raising more than N1.2 million ($800) to realize his dream.
At the time, he stated, “My target after breaking the record is to collect the certificate and organize a free workshop to train people from different parts of the country, because this certificate will make me more popular and the videos that would be recorded there would go viral where so many people will know that I am a photographer with vast knowledge of the skill.
“I want to train at least 1,000 youths on photography in Nigeria [for] free. This training will be virtual and physical. I want to promote Nigerian culture within and outside the country so that outsiders would understand that Nigerians respect their traditions.”
