Wayne Shaw, the 61-year-old brother of veteran Bay Area rapper Too Short, was gunned down during an attempted robbery at a marijuana grow house on Wednesday morning, The Mercury News reported.
Authorities said Shaw was fatally shot after several suspects in a car attempted to plow into an industrial property in Oakland, per NBC Bay Area. “The suspects arrived to the location,” Oakland police Lt. Gloria Beltran said.
“They attempted to force their way into the property. While they were attempting their way in, the victim stepped out, was confronted by the suspects. The suspects fired several rounds at the victim.”
Police said Shaw sustained multiple gunshot wounds, adding that he later passed away at a hospital he was taken to. Investigators are also yet to determine if Shaw’s shooting death was targeted or if it was a case of random robbery.
Authorities also said the suspects fled the scene in an unidentified car. An investigation into the incident has since been launched.

Shaw’s younger brother, Too Short, is a legendary Bay Area and West Coast rapper. The Oakland native, whose real name is Todd Anthony Shaw, kickstarted his rap career in the 1980s. He released his debut album, Don’t Stop Rappin‘, in 1983.
The 58-year-old legendary rapper has a street named after him in East Oakland, NBC Bay Area reported. In the wake of his brother’s death, Too Short took to Instagram to share two emotional videos.
The first video shows The Ghetto rapper riding in a car and playing the Ohio Players’ 1977 song, Angel. He is also seen raising his sunglasses and wiping what appears to be tears. “Real Tears,” he captioned.
In the second video, Too Short is seen bumping his head to another Ohio Players song titled Pain. “Aint really replying to a lot of texts or answering calls right now. I can’t,” he captioned.
The rapper received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow entertainers in the comments section of his videos. “Sending my deepest condolences loved one Wishing you strength & comfort. R.I.P. Wayne,” fellow West Coast rapper, E-40, wrote.
“I send my love and prayers to you and family homeboy,” fellow rapper Warren G also wrote. “Strength and condolences. Hold Ya Head,” veteran producer DJ Premier wrote.
