A suspect, who was driving a stolen vehicle, was spotted entering a Los Angeles gas station and stopping for gas, all while he was engaging police in a high-speed chase.
Per KABC, the incident occurred in the Wilshire area last Friday night, and police said the dark blue Infinity 250 sedan being driven by the suspect had been reported stolen.
During the pursuit, the suspect occasionally drove dangerously and at top speeds, flouting other traffic rules while at it. Officers pursuing the suspect on the ground and the police helicopter temporarily withdrew from the pursuit, but AIR7 continued trailing him.
The suspect was then seen entering a Shell gas station at Imperial Highway and Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood and stopping to refuel the car. As he filled the gas tank, the suspect was seen standing beside the vehicle and covering his face with the shirt he was wearing as he looked at the AIR7 camera. He was also wearing a cap.
The suspect then drove away after refueling, and City of Bell police officers resumed the pursuit. The suspect once again flouted traffic rules as he tried to evade police. Police ultimately avoided getting close to the driver during the chase.
The driver ended up abandoning the vehicle under the 10 Freeway overpass at Alameda Street near the Fashion District and fled the scene, KABC reported. The abandoned vehicle was still in motion before it hit a light pole. Several police cars were also seen arriving at the scene.
The driver had not been arrested at the time of this report, and police suspect another driver picked him up, or he likely carjacked a different vehicle. The area where the suspect abandoned the vehicle was reportedly the same place where he recently abandoned a stolen tanker truck during another police chase. He then entered another stolen car.
