Growing up, Lori Harvey had skin troubles. Most of the skincare products she was using were extremely harsh on her. Her problem was compounded by the fact that she had rosacea, a common skin condition that causes blushing or flushing and visible blood vessels on one’s face.
Describing how living with rosacea is, Harvey noted that she gets breakouts and her skin gets red. “I had scarring, I had hyperpigmentation and acne bumps. I couldn’t use a lot of products on my face because they were too harsh or it would make my skin condition worse,” she told People. “I was using like 15 million products.”
These personal experiences inspired Harvey to start her own skincare beauty products and also cater to the skin needs of people like her. It must be stated that Harvey has been in love with skincare since she was a little girl.
She recalled watching her mom Marjorie Harvey do her skincare routine in the mirror and became eager to recreate her look and look like how her mom’s skin was because her skin was always glowy.
Harvey established a beauty company called SKN by LH which was launched in October last year. Her 5-step skincare routine comes with natural ingredients that cater to all skin types. Her skincare line has products with hyaluronic acid, goji berry extract, and pomegranate fruit extract. The line includes a Vitamin C Serum, Goji Berry Cleanser, Peptide Eye Complex, White Tea Toner, and Niacinamide Cream.
Harvey said her skincare line is different from other skincare brands on the market because SKN by LH is clean, vegan, and has no sulfates, no parabens, no petroleums, no synthetic dyes or fragrance or colouring.
“So all the good stuff. And, we’re also suitable for all skin types, but we especially cater to sensitive skin,” she told Teen Vogue. “That was extremely important to me because, like I said, I have extremely sensitive skin and finding products that really worked for me and my skin. Also, we launched with a five-step routine. It’s a full regimen that people can use day and night if they choose and just really wanted to simplify skincare for people.”
The businesswoman and fashion muse said recently that she hopes to introduce a range of different products from face masks and sheet masks, exfoliants, lip masks, scrubs, and body lotions and wash.
“I really want skin by LH to become a one-stop shop for all skincare-related needs,” she said.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Harvey was raised between Atlanta and Chicago while growing up. Even though her step-father, Steve Harvey, became a popular person, Harvey said she had a “pretty normal” upbringing. She said her parents did a good job of keeping them out of the spotlight and letting them have a normal childhood so they could be kids and not live life under a microscope.
“They let us decide if we wanted to be in the industry,” Harvey said.
Before earning fame and getting into the industry, horseback riding was what she loved. Harvey wanted to be a professional equestrian but she got injured badly so now she only rides leisurely.
