Wanda Sykes
Wanda Sykes is one of the most famous stand-up comics from the 20th-century. Her appearances in many Hollywood movies have been the reference of critiques and satire aimed at Hollywood’s typecasting as she is known to play “the black friend of the lead white woman”.
In 2011, she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a form of breast cancer. It turned that the condition was repetitive in her mother’s family so Sykes had a double mastectomy.
Now, the 55-year-old woman is seemingly living her best life playing comedy gigs.
