According to various sources, Castro jet skied to meet up with Bandu who was reportedly at Ada Safari resort. In the course of the journey, Bandu lost her balance on the jet ski and the musician impulsively took a dive to save her but did not surface. One Mr. Gborgloh, who claims to be an authoritative figure at the Ada resort, said in an interview with Rainbow FM, “Some people reported to me that two people had drowned in the Ada River, so I immediately sent some people to the area to inquire.

“The inquirers came back with the report that two people had indeed drowned in the water and that the two people were believed to be musician Castro and his female companion. As of now, the body of the musician has not [been] retrieved, but we believe the woman on the jet ski is dead.”

Castro’s manager, DJ Amess, counters reports that Bandu was Castro’s girlfriend, though, saying, “She jumped in to the boat to cruise with Castro,” he said. “Castro refused her, but the girl said that she would go.

“When they took off, the bystanders were calling for them to return so that the girl would put on her life jacket. Castro was already wearing his.”

Footballer Gyan expressed his sadness and said witnesses told him they saw Castro take off his life jacket to try to save the woman once she jumped in to the water, “After they were a few miles away, they saw the girl jump from the boat in to the river,” he said. “Maybe she was afraid.

“I wasn’t there so I can’t confirm it but somebody told me this, Gyan said. “Then Castro followed suit. He thought he could have saved the girl.

“He was wearing the life jacket so the moment he fell in to the water he was not able to save the girl.

“They told me they saw him removing the jacket. I wasn’t there so I can’t confirm whether it’s true or not.”

Gyan also said he had spoken to Castro’s parents, “It’s a disaster for the family.”

Since the news broke, friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Castro despite his death not being officially confirmed. Tributes have been tweeted by musician and actor Lethal Bizzle and musician Tinchy Stryder:
