The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) announced it has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media that shows an alleged police officer clutching his gun while arguing about a supposed traffic violation with a colleague officer.
According to Loop Jamaica, the two men in the 6-minute video identified themselves as a sergeant and an inspector. And in the footage, the supposed inspector can be seen with his right hand on his gun while he orders the sergeant to show him his driver’s license as well as his JCF identification.
The sergeant, who was adamant he wasn’t going to produce his documents, called out the inspector for abuse of power. The confrontation between the two men also held up traffic.
Following the circulation of the video, senior officials with the Police High Command reportedly announced an investigation had been opened into the incident.
The confrontation also drew mixed reactions on social media, with some people agreeing the officer had indeed abused his power. They also likened it to how officers harass civilian motorists daily.
