A Haitian national part of his country’s delegation at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Florida has been reported missing. According to NBC News, 25-year-old Louis Jacques Wilguens’ disappearance comes four days after Florida officials said six other Haitian Special Olympics team members had also vanished.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said Wilguens was last seen on Saturday alighting from a bus at Disney‘s All-Star Sports Resort “at about 1630 hours.” He was said to be wearing “red sandals, blue jeans, and a white Special Olympics Shirt with Haiti written on it.”
The sheriff’s office said Wilguens was supposed to return to his native Haiti on Sunday morning, but he has since disappeared after he exited the bus. “If contact is made with Louis Jacques Wilguens, check his well-being,” the sheriff’s office added.
Six Haitian Special Olympics team members who were also in the United States for the games were reported missing last Tuesday, Face2Face Africa reported. Authorities said the men went missing on Monday afternoon after they gave back their hotel room keys. They were said to be in Kissimmee, Florida, at the time. The men did not take their personal belongings when they left.
Authorities also said they did not suspect any foul play, and they classified the incident as isolated.
