A man who allegedly shot and killed an Atlanta Subway worker for putting “too much mayo” on a sandwich was denied bond on November 22. Per 11Alive, the June 2022 incident happened after the suspect, Melvin Williams, had an altercation with the victim. She was identified as 26-year-old Brittany Macon.
He faces a slew of charges including murder, felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree criminal damage to property, third-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Court documents stated that the 36-year-old suspect was ordered to remain in custody because he “poses a significant risk of committing a felony pending trial.”

Another victim, who sustained an injury in the wake of the shooting, survived – though she was transported to the hospital in critical condition. That victim, identified as 24-year-old Jada Nicole Statum, was also a worker at the restaurant.
Willie Glenn, who is the owner of the restaurant, said Statum was with her 5-year-old son when the shooting inside the establishment occurred. “Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich,” Glenn told Fox 5 Atlanta at the time. “He decided to escalate the situation from there, and that’s when all hell broke loose.”
“Someone failed to resolve a conflict by just walking away, having a conversation to just reorder a sandwich, decided to take actions into his hands, and now we have families who are devastated,” Atlanta Police Department Deputy Chief Charles Hampton also said.
A family member also in a statement to Atlanta News First described Macon as a “caring and courageous” person. “She was beautiful and loving, very vocal, would stand up for herself and others,” the statement said.
“She was caring and loved life and her family I really would hope that the fact an unhinged man came into a restaurant and took a life. Mental health in the Black community needs to be addressed, it could’ve been anyone.”
