A Virginia Beach man, La’Shaun Quintae Holloway, 27, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the 2019 killing of his two-month-old daughter.
Holloway received a 50-year sentence on October 6, with 20 years suspended, according to a statement from the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach.
The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on December 20, 2019, Holloway was responsible for the care of his two-month-old baby.

“Family members heard him yelling obscenities at the baby over an Xbox headset,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach said in a statement.
The two-month-old infant was found unresponsive after she stopped crying. She was rushed to a local hospital and placed on life support, but died days later.
Medical professionals noted serious injuries including 26 rib fractures at various stages of healing, bruising on her chest, a fractured clavicle, a skull fracture, bruising around her eyes, and an extensive brain bleed. The injuries were the result of abusive head trauma, according to doctors.
Holloway had a prior conviction for child abuse and neglect in Chesapeake, which arose from an incident where he was also convicted of felony eluding police, felony hit and run, and DUI.
Holloway received a higher sentence than the 23 years and 8 months recommended by Virginia’s State Sentencing Guidelines.
“In arguing for this high sentence, the Commonwealth referenced the significant injuries, age of the baby, and the brutality of the murder,” the statement said. “Judge [Afshin] Farashahi agreed that those factors warranted a sentence above the guidelines.”
