The federal murder-for-hire trial of American rapper Lil Durk will begin on April 21.
Originally known as Durk Banks, the 33-year-old appeared in court last week, where a judge granted the defendants’ request to delay the trial by at least three months.
Durk’s lawyers suggested moving the start date from January 20 to May 4, insisting that they needed additional time to review discovery in trial preparation.
“We would have been ready to try the case (in two weeks), but the court appropriately decided that with everybody together, we still aren’t there yet,” Drew Findling, one of Durk’s lawyers, told Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon. “It’s a complex case. These are the stepping stones towards a trial.”
Back in October 2024, the 33-year-old rapper was arrested on a murder-for-hire allegation after five people, allegedly tied to the rapper’s Only the Family, were accused of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in relation to the 2022 shooting of Quando Rondo.
Reports indicate that the alleged hit is perceived to be in retaliation for the murder of King Von, which was carried out by Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks, an affiliate of Rondo.
Despite the fact that Rondo was not injured during the shooting, his 24-year-old cousin Saviay’a Robinson was killed.
Since his arrest, Durk has remained behind bars, and his attorneys say he has spent the past four months in solitary confinement after he was allegedly found “in possession of an unauthorized Apple Watch.”
His lawyer Christy O’ Connor claims the rapper has not been given access to commissary, and is only allowed one phone call each month, without in-person visits.

The attorneys of Lil Durk reportedly filed a motion last week requesting a status hearing, alleging that Durk has been held “without process,” a violation of federal regulations and possibly the Eighth Amendment.
