Veteran comedian and actor Mike Epps apologized to Nicki Minaj after he made a sexual joke about the rapper and President Donald Trump during a show.
Epps, 55, made the joke about Minaj during the We Them Ones Comedy Tour at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville on February 6, Entertainment Weekly reported. Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, is an outspoken Trump supporter.
While entertaining the audience at the show, Epps jokingly said that Minaj, 43, was “having a train ran on her by Donald Trump and them.”
But The Hangover star walked back on his comments in a post on his Instagram stories on Tuesday.
“Y’all know I’m Mr Accountability,” Epps said. “You know, I say stuff and do stuff, and then I go to bed, wake up the next morning, [having] prayed on and thought about it. I just want to apologize to you, Nicki Minaj, for saying the stuff that I said. I want to apologize to your husband, your kids, all that for saying what I said.”
“I’m a comedian,” Epps added. “Sometimes I get on that stage, and I have a little drink, and I go wild. I’m non-filtered. Just wanted to apologize to you. Not explaining myself, but I am Mr. Accountability.”
He continued: “I love apologizing, which is something a lot of people don’t know how to do. [I] apologize to you, Nicki.”
Minaj has drawn backlash from a section of her fans and other people for throwing her weight behind the Trump administration. Last month, the Superbass rapper reaffirmed her unwavering support for Trump while delivering a speech at a “Trump Accounts Summit” session, saying that she’s “probably” the president’s number one fan, Face2Face Africa reported.
Besides that, Minaj, who immigrated to the United States from Trinidad and Tobago, claimed that Trump, 79, was being subjected to bullying, and a “smear campaign” had been waged against him, Variety reported.
“Well, I don’t know what to say,” Minaj said after initially holding Trump’s hands as they walked toward the podium, “but I will say that I am probably the president’s no. 1 fan. And that’s not going to change.
“And the hate with what people have to say, it does not affect me, at all,” the rapper added. “It actually motivates me to support him more. And it’s gonna motivate all of us to support him more. We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him. The smear campaigns, it’s not going to work. He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen?”
