Well, believe it or not, racism in post-apartheid South Africa doesn’t quite clearly seem to be a thing of the past.
In the early hours of Sunday, July 8, 27-year old Xolisile Ndzongana was brutally beaten to death by a white mob in what was an obvious racially motivated attack. The incident, which happened in Middelburg, Mpumalanga and was captured on CCTV camera, was spurred when Ndzongana in the company of two other friends, whilst driving through the town centre approached a group of white men who had blocked the road with their cars.
According to TimesLive, Ndzongana told the driver and the passengers in one of the cars to move so they could also have access to the road but his request was met with racially motivated insults including him and his friends being allegedly called the K-word. The suspects also allegedly threw alcohol which they were drinking at the men.
Take a look at the video below:
SowetanLive also reported on Monday that the Mpumalanga police had withdrawn murder charges against the suspects after their arrest.
Just last year in the same town, Face2Face Africa reported a story of two white men who were each handed more than 10-year jail sentences after they were caught on camera forcing a terrified black man into a coffin and threatening to set him ablaze.
This recent issue further heightens racial tensions in the town.
