66-year-old man was stabbed with a sword

A 66-year-old African-American, Timothy Caughman was stabbed to death in March with a sword. James Harris Jackson, 28, was arrested over the incident and was charged with one count each of murder in the first and second degrees as an act of terrorism. He was also charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime, as well as three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors at the time said Jackson travelled to New York City specifically to kill black people. Jackson later confessed, saying that he targeted Caughman as he was bent over a trash bin near his home in the area of Manhattan and stabbed him from behind with a 2-foot sword, killing him instantly. In an interview with the New York Daily News, Jackson apologized for killing the 66-year-old, saying that he would have rather killed a younger or older and more successful black victim.
