Each one of Kenya’s 349 Members of Parliament and 67 Senators currently earns a monthly salary of about $13,740. This effectively translates to a wage bill of about $5.5 million per month or $60 million per year.
They also enjoy a string of allowances and a $48,000 car grant, ensuring that they are some of the best-paid lawmakers in the world.
Meanwhile, ordinary Kenyan citizens are left to eke out a livelihood on an average monthly income of $150.
