Kelly Davis, the estranged wife of former NFL star Thomas Davis, was arrested and charged after she allegedly hit a woman she suspected of having an affair with her husband.
Per TMZ Sports, the woman Kelly is accused of attacking is a chiropractor identified as Laura Watterson. The August 26 incident is said to have occurred at Watterson’s Charlotte office. The chiropractor in court documents claimed that Kelly repeatedly hit her, as Kelly suspected that she was having an affair with Thomas.
Watterson was said to be attending to a patient in her office when Kelly began shouting at her. Court documents stated that Kelly then hit Watterson’s chest after she was told to leave.
“As I tried to guide her out the door of my office, she hit me and knocked my glasses off then hit me again on the other side of the head,” Watterson stated in the documents.
Kelly was ultimately arrested on September 3 and charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and battery. Her lawyer, James J. Exum, however, denied the allegations and described them as “false.”
“We believe completely in Kelly’s innocence and we look forward to challenging the false allegations once we have a court date,” Exum told the news outlet on Friday.
Kelly also told TMZ Sports that though she indeed hit Watterson, she was acting in self-defense. She claimed that she went to Watterson’s office to have a conversation regarding the doctor’s alleged affair with her husband. But Kelly claimed that while speaking with Watterson, the chiropractor got hold of her arm and squeezed her nails through it.
“That’s when I slapped her,” Kelly claimed, adding that after she was made to leave the office, she hit Watterson once more.
Kelly denied acting out of jealousy, claiming that the reason behind her desire to have a conversation with Watterson was that the doctor had worked closely with her, as well as Thomas and their son, for years.
“I’m not jealous,” Kelly said. “I don’t want that man [Thomas] back ever in my life.”
Kelly and Thomas tied the knot in 2008, and they share two children. But Kelly, in a civil case filed in February 2025, revealed that she and her husband parted ways in March 2024. She said that was after Thomas “engaged in illicit sexual conduct with at least six women other than” her while they were married.
Thomas started his professional career in 2005 as a first-round pick. He spent the majority of his 15-year NFL career with the Carolina Panthers. He also had stints with the Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders.
