A 30-year-old Louisiana groom was arrested on his wedding night in connection with the shooting of two people including a man he accused of having a romantic relationship with his bride.
According to L’Observateur, the suspect, Devin Jose Jones, was in the company of his wife and her male friend when the incident occurred on Saturday night. The groom was still in his tuxedo while the bride was also in her wedding gown at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say Jones was in a vehicle with his wife and the male victim during a traffic standstill as a result of a car crash on the Bonnet Carre Spillway. And while in the vehicle, the three occupants got into an argument after Jones accused his wife and her male friend of having an affair.
Things escalated and Jones pulled out a gun before chasing the male victim through the traffic jam. The suspect opened fire on the man and hit him in the leg. One of the bullets also pierced through a vehicle and struck the occupant in the hand.
In the midst of the chaos, Jones’ wife managed to flag an ambulance to stop and told the medics her husband was trying to kill her, L’Observateur reported. But though she was allowed inside the ambulance, Jones made his way to the vehicle and tried forcing his way in. However, responding officers who were chasing the suspect on foot managed to close in on him and apprehend him.
The victims who sustained the gunshot wounds were transported to a hospital for treatment. Jones, who is still in custody, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, aggravated second-degree battery and two counts of aggravated damage to criminal property, PEOPLE reported.
