La Rogativa

This is the sculpture of a commemorative religious procession in Old San Juan that saved the Spanish from the attack of the British. The illusion of Spanish reinforcements from the procession scared off the British army led by Abercrombie in 1797.

In fact, the Spanish were outnumbered by the British troops. Legend has it that the British thought they were rather outnumbered upon seeing the torches from the religious procession and retreated.
