Graca Machel

Graca Machel has the distinct achievement of being the only woman to have been the first lady of two different countries. After Samora Machel, Mozambique’s first president and her first husband died, Graca married Nelson Mandela.

Unlike the others, Graca did not contest a position based on a political party’s ticket. Rather, she was appointed the Mozambican minister for education and culture.
