It appears Halle Berry is still not on good terms with her ex-husband Eric Benét as she recently rebuffed claims about the Grammy-nominated singer being a sex addict.
Berry, 58, and Benét, 57, dated for two years before they married in 2001, Page Six reported. They, however, ended their relationship in 2003.
“I had one husband who said he was a sex addict,” Berry said during Monday’s episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “But I don’t f–ing believe that s–t.”
Berry, however, stopped short of mentioning Benét as the individual in question – though previous reports revealed that the Spend My Life With You singer in 2002 sought rehab for sex addiction.
In the wake of their separation, Berry in a statement to Entertainment Weekly stated that she and Benét “have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together.”
“However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time,” the Die Another Day star added.
Benét’s alleged sex addiction also became a topic of discussion after their separation as there were rumors that his infidelity during his marriage to Berry was a result of that condition. But Benét in a 2004 interview with ABC News denied being a sex addict.
“I am not a sex addict,” he said at the time. “I am a person who … through a series of emotional events, troubles, challenges, made some really, really stupid, painful mistakes.”
He also said that though his actions included “verbally inappropriate” conduct and “physical contact that was extremely inappropriate and wrong in a marriage,” he did not engage in any sexual activity.
“The snowball [of misrepresentations] has gathered so much momentum that … I thought that for my daughter and for myself I’d be doing much more harm by not saying anything,” Benét continued. “Not to excuse any of the poor choices that I made, not to try to dodge any of the mistakes, but maybe to just add a different perspective.”
