The Democratic congresswoman for Minnesota’s 5th district, Ilhan Omar, has revealed that she is now married to her former aide, Tim Mynett.
Omar, a prominent target of conservative politicians and Republicans, took to Instagram with a photo of her and Mynett. The caption to the photo read: “Got married! From partners in politics to life partners, so blessed”.
Last year, it was reported that Beth Mynett, formerly married to Omar’s new husband, told a court that her ex-husband called for a divorce after confessing he was in love with Omar.
Tim Mynett used to be the chief campaign fundraiser for the Somali-born congresswoman.
Omar also divorced her former husband Ahmed Hirsi late last year. She had three children with Hirsi.
The 38-year-old Minnesota representative is an outspoken critic of US foreign policy. Her views on US support for Israel have often led to accusations of antisemitism.
She is also an advocate for progressive politics.
Omar, together with congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) NY-14, Ayanna Pressley (D) MA-7th and Rashida Tlaib (D) MI-13th, are referred to as The Squad by popular and mainstream media.
