South Africa and and much of the world became frantic after news of Nelson Mandela’s poor health surfaced earlier this month. Diagnosed with lung infection, the 94-year-old Mandela was hospitalized for over three weeks, while undergoing treatment that included a gallstone surgery.
Yesterday, the South African presidency announced that Mandela has been discharged from the hospital and will undergo a home-based high care until full recovery.
“We thank the public and the media for the good wishes and for affording Madiba and the family the necessary privacy,” said spokesperson Mac Maharaj.
Although Mandela has a long history of lung problems, this hospitalization is his longest ever since being freed from his 27-year term in prison nearly two decades ago.
As a result, this caused much alarm. However, we are happy to learn that he is fairing better and has returned home. We wish the Madiba a speedy recovery and great health.
