Jerry Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman
Ghana’s longest-ever serving leader, Jerry Rawlings, was in charge of the country a combined 31 years as both a soldier and a civilian.
Rawlings was a shrewd politician who realized what it meant to identify with the symbols of traditional influence and authority. As such, he married wisely.
His wife, Nana Konadu, is the daughter of a prosperous and well-educated family whose eminence was even before Ghana’s independence. Konadu’s father, John Osei-Tutu Agyeman, was a prominent opinion leader with royal Ashanti blood.
