Gede Ruins – Kenya
Located in Watamu, Malindi, Gede Ruins are the remains of a traditional Swahili town built in the 12th century. The town was rebuilt in the 15th century and later abandoned in the 17th century. It was largely occupied by the Swahili people, who were ruled by a Sultan.
Currently, the ruins comprise several mosques, a palace, and houses — all of which are now submerged deep in the forest. Gede Ruins are now a major tourist attraction site in Kenya.
