Authorities in Detroit have brought criminal charges against a 12-year-old girl after she allegedly doused acid on an 11-year-old girl and left her with severe burns. According to ClickOnDetroit, the July 9 incident occurred at a playground following an altercation between two teens.

The victim, identified as Deaira Summers, wasn’t involved in the altercation in question, her family said, adding that the 12-year-old suspect threw a liquid at Summers as well as her cousin and siblings after the juvenile’s mother gave her a bottle containing the substance.

“She was a bystander who was doused with acid at a school park where she was playing,” Summers’ grandmother stated in a GoFundMe that was set up to raise funds for her medical expenses. “On July 9th, Deaira and her young siblings and cousins were at a park when an altercation between an older, unknown teenager and one of Deaira’s cousins occurred.

“The unknown teenager’s mother brought acid to the park for her child to retaliate. Deaira and her siblings had left the park, as they were not involved; however, Deaira dropped her purse in her haste to depart. She returned for her purse and was then doused with acid by the older teenager.”

Summers reportedly ended up spending three days at the hospital after she was burned in her back, legs, and arms. The suspect has since been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault.

The suspect’s bond was set at $10,000 during a preliminary hearing on Saturday. She was also ordered to not get in contact with Summers or any witnesses. “I feel like there should be consequences because I didn’t do nothing to that girl,” Summers told WSAZ.
