Daniella Hines recalled that her son, Annan, became the “talk of the maternity ward” when she gave birth to him at BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida, on September 3.
That was particularly because of his huge size, TODAY.com reported. An average newborn’s size is about 7.5 pounds, but baby Annan weighed 13 pounds, 15 ounces, meaning that he was almost double the standard size.
Following his birth, the hospital’s media relations department said Annan is believed to be the biggest baby to be delivered at the facility. Hines also suggested that genetics may have contributed to Annan clocking that weight, as she and her husband are tall. Hines is 6 feet, while her husband is two inches taller than her.
During Hines’ pregnancy, she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which is high blood sugar when someone is pregnant. She, however, stated that there was a serious management of her glucose levels. Gestational diabetes during pregnancy can sometimes result in the birth of big babies.

Hines also underwent a Caesarean section, but she said her experience was unusual when she compared it to when she went under the knife to deliver Annan’s big brother Andre Jr.
Annan’s big brother weighed 12 pounds, 11 ounces, per TODAY.com. “I remember thinking, ‘What are they pulling out of me?’ What is going on here?’ I felt so much pressure,” Hines jokingly recalled.
She eventually understood what was happening once she finally saw Annan. “He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?'” said Hines.
“Then everybody starts coming in because it’s not every day you see an almost 14 pound baby pop out. He was like a little celebrity.” “I can’t wait to show him when he gets older: ‘Look you were in the news!'” she added.
Hines said her baby is “really chill,” though that changes when it’s time to eat. She said she can understand why that is the case.
“We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” Hines said. “But it’s just more to love!”
