October 20th is a date that many Kenyans circle on their calendars. Not only is it a national holiday, giving people a day off from work, but it’s an opportunity for citizens to celebrate the country’s heroes and heroines as part of Mashujaa Day. Festivities will be held throughout the country, culminating in a celebration at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County that will be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

To help celebrate those who have made notable sacrifices for their country, Face2Face Africa has compiled a list of the five most celebrated Kenyan heroes and heroines.
