Beans 

African markets are stacked high with varieties of beans. Beans, the most common protein-rich foods, and also generally affordable. Alongside being loaded with fiber, one-half cup of beans contains as much protein as an ounce of broiled steak.

Many traditional African foods incorporate beans without any addition of meats. The famous Ghanaian lunch, beans with plantain, otherwise known as red-red, is one.
